Six local professionals seek donations for MedWest-Harris & Swain Foundation in quest to be crowned Disco King and Queen at ‘That ‘70s Gala’

Sylva, N.C. – Six local professionals are on a quest to be crowned Disco King and Queen, not based on their dance moves but on donations they are collecting for a good cause.

The six civic-minded individuals are raising money for the MedWest-Harris & Swain Foundation by gathering votes and contributions from friends and colleagues as part of the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year – “That ‘70s Gala,” an evening of disco dancing, fine dining, a silent auction and more at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25 at Harrah's Cherokee Casino & Hotel Event Center in Cherokee.

The money the Disco King and Queen candidates are raising will be used along with other Gala proceeds to renovate MedWest-Harris’ Mother and Baby suites.

At the ‘70s-themed celebration Aug. 25, the Disco King and Queen will be chosen based on who collects the most donations. Last year, the Disco King and Queen candidates alone raised more than $13,000.

Now in its 13th year, the Gala is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser. Through the years, the event has raised funds to provide free mammograms to underserved women in Jackson and Swain counties and to purchase equipment like a digital mammography system and laboratory and nuclear medicine technology.

This year’s Disco King candidates are:
