Patty Ward named Administrator of MedWest-Swain

7/25/2011

Patty Ward has been named Assistant Vice President and Administrator of MedWest-Swain.

Ward will oversee daily operations of the hospital, which has 48 beds and provides an array of inpatient and outpatient services, including the emergency department, lab, radiology and physical therapy.

Since 2004, Ward has served as the Nursing Service Director for MedWest-Swain. Under her leadership, MedWest-Swain has been recognized for two consecutive years for positive perceptions of safety as measured by staff responses. She has been a nurse for 38 years and has nearly 20 years of experience in various leadership roles with MedWest Health System.

"Patty and her staff consistently deliver excellent care to our patients. The results she and her team have produced at MedWest-Swain are evidence of the quality care patients receive every day," said Dwayne Hooks, Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for MedWest.

Ward replaces Ronnie Sloan as administrator of MedWest-Swain. Sloan left MedWest in June to become President and Chief Operating Officer of The Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head, after more than 20 years with MedWest.

"MedWest is very fortunate to have strong leadership within our ranks," said Jim Manring, a member of the MedWest Board of Directors. "Many of our leaders are grown within our system, and often that leads to tremendous professional opportunities for them, with MedWest, or other healthcare organizations," he said.

MedWest-Swain joined with MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Haywood in January 2010 to form MedWest Health System, which is affiliated with Carolinas HealthCare System. MedWest is governed locally by a 14-member board from across the region MedWest serves. The Board of Directors includes: Mark Clasby (chairman), Fred Alexander (vice chairman), Bob Carpenter (secretary), Glenn White (treasurer), Martha Anderson, MD, Jean Burton, Shannon Hunter, MD, Bunny Johns, Kirk Kirkpatrick, Jim Manring, Jerry McKinney, Henry Nathan, MD, Frank Powers and Larry Selby, MD.
