October 21st-27th: National Respiratory Care Week

Sylva, N.C.- This week is dedicated to the Respiratory Care workers on our health care team that serve our community as a skilled care provider and preventative ambassador.

Respiratory Care professionals support patient needs by diagnosing lung and breathing disorders and recommending specific treatment options, according to the American Association for Respiratory Care.

There are more than 112,000 certified Respiratory Therapists nationwide providing care each day to those who need it, including many within the MedWest medical staff. Respiratory Therapy is the health care discipline that specializes in the promotion of optimum cardiopulmonary function and health.

According to the American Association of Respiratory Care, Respiratory therapists apply scientific principles to prevent, identify, and treat acute or chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system. Their knowledge of the scientific principles underlying cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, as well as biomedical engineering and technology, enable them to effectively assess, educate, and treat patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.

Respiratory Therapists are an essential part of any health care system and they care deeply for the health of their patients and their community. Take time to thank your Respiratory Therapist today.
