MedWest Health and Fitness Center offering lifeguard training course in February

Clyde, N.C. – The aquatics area of the MedWest Health & Fitness Center will hold its next American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification course February 21-24.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training yields a two-year lifeguard certification and two-year CPR certification, suitable for employment at pool settings in all 50 states. For young adults entering the work force, becoming a certified lifeguard is a great measure of responsibility that goes far beyond most entry-level jobs, and often yields a higher initial rate of pay in the process.

The course costs $235 for MedWest Health and Fitness Center members, and $255 for non-members. The fee includes all materials and instruction for both lifeguard training and CPR training.
The class schedule is:

Thursday, February 21 – 4:00pm – 9:00pm
Friday, February 22 – 4:00pm – 9:00pm
Saturday, February 23 – 9:00am – 6:00pm
Sunday, February 24 – 1:00pm – 7:00pm

Those considering taking the training should remember that it is a demanding course, both intellectually and physically. To qualify for entry into lifeguard training, one must be in good physical condition, and able to swim proficiently. Exclusions in participation may apply if minimum standards are not met. If you are interested in taking this course but unsure of whether or not you meet the initial requirements, please contact the MedWest Health & Fitness Center aquatics office at (828) 452-8056 for further advisement prior to registering.
