Lake Junaluska N.C.- The annual meeting of the MedWest Haywood Hospital Volunteers was held November 14, 2011 at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake Junaluska.

The new president is Judy Ross of Waynesville, 1st vice president is J.R. Troyer of Wayesville, treasurer is GiGi Gerichek of Clyde, recording secretary is Colleen Jakes of Canton, and corresponding secretary, Rubye Harkins of Canton.

In her remarks, out-going president Jackie Duncan reported some the important achievments over the past year. The total number of volunteer members is 105 and, they as an organization, worked a total of 29,715 hours last year.

Ms. Duncan explained, “If each volunteer had been paid $8 an hour, which would total $237,720. That is an impressive savings for the hospital!”

Additionally, the hospital volunteers raised a total of $32, 016.97 through donations, from memorial gifts and contributions of $1,000 to the Golf Classic and Power Pink events. Of that money, $10,000 goes to sponsor five college scholarships for nursing students at Haywood Community College, and $20,842 to purchase hospital equipment.
