MedWest-Haywood welcomes urologist Brooks Hooper, MD to Blue Mountain Urology in Clyde
Clyde, N.C. – MedWest-Haywood is pleased to announce that urologist Brooks Hooper, MD joined Blue Mountain Urology in Clyde on Monday, Aug. 6.
Hooper has joined urologist Richard H. Steele, MD at Blue Mountain Urology at 15 Brettwood Trace in Clyde.
Prior to joining Blue Mountain Urology, Hooper was chief resident of urology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He completed a urology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C, and a general surgery internship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Hooper also is an accomplished professional chef who earned an associate of applied sciences degree in culinary arts from Johnson and Wales University in Charleston. He worked as a sous chef at Saluda’s in Columbia, S.C., and as a line cook at Slightly North of Broad in Charleston.
“Surgery and cooking both depend on mastery, through study and endless repetition, of techniques and rigid discipline in their execution,” Hooper said. “They're both a team pursuit, and careers where you can feel immediate gratification in doing something for other people.”
Hooper earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va.
Hooper’s research experience includes work as a clinical research fellow with the Urologic Oncology Branch of the U.S. National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. He also was a chemist with Argolyn Biosystems Inc. in North Charleston, S.C.; a graduate chemistry assistant with the Medical University of South Carolina College of Health Professions; and an R.E. Lee Undergraduate Research Fellow with the department of chemistry at Washington and Lee University.
Hooper’s professional affiliations include memberships with the American Urologic Association, the American Academy of Surgeons, and the American Chemical Society.
He and his wife have two sons, as well as family in Tennessee and South Carolina.
