MedWest-Haywood welcomes neurologist Michael W. Vavra, MD to Mountain Medical Associates in Clyde

Clyde, N.C. – MedWest-Haywood is pleased to announce that neurologist Michael W. Vavra, MD is joining Mountain Medical Associates in Clyde on Monday, Aug. 27. 

Mountain Medical Associates is an established, multi-specialty health care practice that focuses on health care maintenance and preventative medicine through internal medicine services. 

At Mountain Medical Associates, Vavra joins Filiberto Colón II, MD; Steven S. Crider, MD; Najeeb O. Ghaussy, MD; Jay W. Grosse, MD; John A. LaFata, DO; Harry G. Lipham, MD, PA; Craig H. Linger, MD; registered nurse and board-certified adult nurse practitioner Leslie D. McDowell; Henry P. Nathan, MD; Ditte G. Phillips, MD; Howard W. Palay, MD; and Kate T. Queen, MD, PA. 

Prior to joining Mountain Medical Associates, Vavra worked as a neurologist with Tri-State Mountain Neurology Associates in Johnson City, Tenn., and as a neurology consultant for the Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn., and for the Johnson City Medical Center. 

Vavra earned his medical degree from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. He also received a bachelor of science degree from Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., and a master of science degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. 

Vavra completed his internship, neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. He also holds diplomate of neurology certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. 

Vavra’s professional affiliations include memberships with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
