MedWest-Haywood honors Rhonda Reed, RN, BSN with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Waynesville, N.C. – Rhonda Reed, RN, BSN, a nurse at MedWest-Haywood, was recently awarded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
DAISY Award honorees personify MedWest’s remarkable patient experience, and consistently demonstrate excellence though their clinical expertise. They are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community. Reed is a nurse on the 7th floor at MedWest-Haywood, and was given the DAISY Award for exemplifying all of these criteria and giving sincere, compassionate care to each of her patients.
“She took as long as needed to thoroughly explain every situation at hand. I never felt like a room number; I felt like a person, her top priority. She made my visit more peaceful than anyone ever has,” said a patient under Reed’s care. “Nursing is more than a job to her. Her patients are her heart. ”
Reed has been practicing nursing since she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in May of 2011 from Western Carolina University.
“My favorite thing about nursing is serving my patients to the best of my ability,” she said. “I also enjoy the incredible multidisciplinary teamwork that is involved in providing care, and the fact that I am always learning in a clinical sense. The team of nurses I work with have been amazingly supportive of that learning.”
In her personal time, Reed enjoys spending time with her children, gardening, camping, reading and cooking.
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in honor of Pat Barnes, a California resident who died from auto-immune disease in 1999. Pat’s family founded DAISY, which stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, to recognize the outstanding and compassionate nursing care Pat received during his illness. As part of that recognition, they also included the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, which has been used to recognize exceptional nurses in hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout the United States. MedWest is proud to be a DAISY Award Hospital Partner, recognizing three of our nurses with this special honor every quarter.
Each DAISY Award Honoree recognized at a public ceremony in their unit and receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled "A Healer's Touch."
