MedWest-Harris welcomes pediatrician Peter Rice, MD, FAAP to WNC Pediatric and Adolescent Care in Sylva

Sylva, N.C. – MedWest-Harris welcomes pediatrician Peter Rice, MD, FAAP to WNC Pediatric and Adolescent Care in Sylva, starting June 11. 

Rice joins Charles H. Toledo, MD, FAAP, Brooke Budde, DO, FAAP, and Donna Brock, CPNP at the medical practice which offers comprehensive pediatric services for children from birth to 21 years old. 

"It makes my day to care for and provide health guidance to children, teens and their families,” Rice said. “You'll always find a smile on my face, and I look forward to earning each family's trust in my care.” 

A board-certi?ed pediatrician since 2006, Rice is fluent in Spanish and has active medical licenses in North Carolina and Arizona. He completed his pediatric residency training with the Carolinas HealthCare Pediatric Residency in Charlotte and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. 

Rice received his medical degree from the University of California in Irvine in June 1995. He also was awarded a PhD in biophysical chemistry from Stanford University in California in July 1991. Rice earned a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry from the University of Louisville in Kentucky in May 1988. Prior to deciding to become a pediatrician, Rice worked as a board-certified family physician from 1998 through 2004. 

Rice was in pediatric practice at El Rio Community Health Center in Tucson from September 2007 to April 2010. Rice also worked at El Rio Community Health Center from April 2011 up until joining WNC Pediatric and Adolescent Care. 

Rice also was in pediatric practice at Children’s Urgent Care of Carolinas HealthCare in Charlotte from May 2010 to April 2011 and at Blue Ridge Community Health Services Pediatric Clinic in Hendersonville from August 2006 to April 2007. 

WNC Pediatric and Adolescent Care’s services include routine well child care, development screening, immunizations, asthma care, sports physicals, diabetes care and a walk-in clinic for sick visits only from 8 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
