MedWest-Harris welcomes obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Mila D. Shah-Bruce to Smoky Mountain OB/GYN Associates

Sylva and Franklin, N.C. – MedWest-Harris welcomes obstetrician/gynecologist Mila D. Bruce, MD to Smoky Mountain OB/GYN Associates PA, starting Aug. 1.

Dr. Bruce joins Dr. Janine Keever and Dr. Anton van Duuren at Smoky Mountain OB/GYN Associates, a practice with offices in Sylva and Franklin.  Smoky Mountain OB/GYN Associates physicians and midwives provide obstetrical and gynecological care to women beginning in adolescence and continuing through menopause. Services include both high and low risk obstetrics, advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, routine well woman care and a full spectrum of care for women.

Dr. Bruce’s specialties include performing minimally invasive operations, such as total laparoscopic hysterectomies, laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomies and other minimally invasive pelvic surgery.

Her training in high-risk obstetrics includes treating a variety of situations during pregnancy including diabetes, hypertensive disorders, endocrine disorders, multifetal gestations, cardiac conditions and advanced maternal age. Dr. Bruce also has experience with infertility assessment and treatment.

“In addition to my training, I feel as though recently becoming a new mother has allowed me to connect with my patients on a more personal level,” said Bruce of the baby she and her husband welcomed in May.

Dr. Bruce will complete her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport in June and is licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana and North Carolina.

She earned her medical degree in 2008 from St. Matthew’s University College of Medicine in Grand Cayman, British West Indies, with her clinical rotations completed at Synergy Medical Education Alliance affiliated with Michigan State University in Saginaw.

Dr. Bruce completed post-graduate studies at Georgia Perimeter College in Duluth in 2002. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and an academic certificate in international agriculture from the University of Georgia in Athens in 2001. Dr. Bruce also completed studies at Young Harris College in Georgia in 1998 through a high school/college partnership enrollment.

She is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Medical Women’s Association.
