MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Swain offering free cancer support groups in September

Sylva and Bryson City, N.C. –MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Swain are offering the following free cancer support groups in September: 

•The General Cancer Support Group for men and women dealing with any cancer diagnosis will meet from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Harris Medical Park Conference Room. The group, which also welcomes caregivers, meets the first Thursday of every month. 

•The Man to Man Support Group for prostate cancer patients and survivors will meet from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10 in the Annex Conference Room on the MedWest-Harris campus in Sylva. The group meets the second Monday of each month. Hugh Moon and Joe Hurt, MD are co-chairmen of the American Cancer Society support group. 

•The two WNC Breast Cancer Support Groups will meet in September. One group, which meets the second Tuesday of every month, will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, in the private dining room next to the cafeteria at MedWest-Swain. The other group, which meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Harris Medical Park Conference Room, will meet from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25.

These Life’s Path Support Groups are part of MedWest’s comprehensive cancer treatment services, which include state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and advanced radiation therapy services at Mountain Regional Cancer Center in Sylva. 

MedWest’s cancer services team includes board-certified general surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, healthcare professionals specializing in radiation therapy and nurse navigators who help patients step-by-step throughout the cancer treatment process.
