8/30/2011

Learn about common orthopedic problems and the latest treatments during a Lunch and Learn seminar September 29, featuring Dr. Christofer Catterson, an orthopedic surgeon at WNC Orthopaedic Specialists and director of the MedWest Sports Medicine program.

The one-hour educational seminar is an encore presentation of past seminars that have been extremely popular and will focus on the shoulder and knee, but also will include common orthopedic problems of the elbow, hand and hip. Topics of discussion will include treatments for rotator cuff tears, shoulder impingement, meniscus tears of the knee, as well as arthritis of the shoulder and knee.

Catterson completed his sports medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala. His subspecialty is sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery, although he treats all common orthopedic problems and performs shoulder and knee joint replacements.

The seminar begins at 12:30 p.m. in the second floor classroom at MedWest Health & Fitness Center. The cost for the seminar is $5 and includes lunch.

Attendees will be able to make an appointment for a free orthopedic screening at the time they make their reservation for the seminar. The screenings will be for people currently experiencing joint pain in their shoulder, elbow, knee, and hip. The number of slots for the screenings will be limited and will be offered after the Lunch and Learn concludes, around 1:30 p.m.

Advance reservations are required and may be made by calling 452-8881 or by e-mailing jwalt@haymed.org.
