Infant water safety offered at MedWest

6/29/2011

Water Exploration courses for infants and toddlers will be offered at the Medwest Health & Fitness Center beginning July 9. Water Exploration 1, for infants ages 6 months to 18 months, will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Water Exploration 2, for toddlers ages 18 months to 36 months, will be held from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.

These courses will be offered on a weekly recurring basis, for a cost of $20 for members/$30 non-members, for a five-visit punch card. Water Exploration courses can be joined at any time.

This class develops comfort with playing in, and immersing in water for young children, making it easier to catch on to swimming as they become older. It also develops trust between parent and child, as they go through instructor-led exercises in the pool together.

Water Exploration is the first step in the chain of learning that is essential for your child’s safety in and around the water later in life. Statistics have shown that enrollment in organized swimming lessons reduce the risk of drowning in children by 88 percent.

Medwest Health & Fitness Center is currently in its 13th year of providing water safety services to Haywood and surrounding counties. To register, visit the front desk of Medwest Health & Fitness Center.  For more information, call 452.8056.
