Wound Care

MedWest Wound Care is a service department of MedWest Health System and offers a comprehensive wound management approach to healing through inpatient and outpatient services.

Our team approach involves the cooperation of the physician, physical therapists, nurses, orthotists, dietitians and, most importantly, the patient. Our health care team works together to develop an individualized treatment plan which may involve simple dressings and antibiotic application or advanced techniques, depending on the severity of the wound.

Patients with diabetes require special care and management to prevent complications. In addition to wound management, we are available to provide education on self-care and management.

Patients undergoing ostomy surgery and appliance fitting receive ongoing assistance as we assess and counsel ostomy patients both pre-operatively and post-operatively.

Treatments offered include:
  • Burns
  • Lacerations
  • Acute or chronic wounds
  • Vascular ulcers and wounds complicated by diabetes
  • Nail and callous debridement
  • Ostomy care
  • Compression therapy
  • Infection-control
  • Patient education concerning procedures, both pre-operative and post-operative
  • Preventative diabetic foot care
  • Preventative measures to preclude recurrence of wounds
  • Prevention of amputation
MedWest Wound is located on the campus of MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Haywood.
