Behavioral Health

MedWest Health System's Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) is an adult psychiatric inpatient program at MedWest-Haywood. Using state funds, the west wing of the sixth floor was renovated to provide a safe, secure and attractive unit. The BHU is places where individuals can come who are experiencing emotional or behavioral problems that have built to a crisis level and are in need of inpatient care and support. Care is provided by psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, clinical social workers and community mental health assistants. The BHU utilizes the Recovery Model which encourages wellness, symptom management, and empowerment. Patients are engaged as partners in their recovery process. The Behavioral Health Unit has 16 beds, with the average length of stay being seven days.
