Meet the MedWest Lifeguards
Brandon Brown
Brandon is 26, and is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Marketing at Western Carolina University. He is also an American Red Cross Lifeguard & CPR Instructor. During his tenure at MH&FC, Brandon has instructed numerous programs and services, such as Lifeguard Training, adult and child swimming lessons, CPR, Youth Guardstart, Kids’ Swim Club, and staff In-services, among others. In addition to Aquatics, Brandon also has a strong background in electronics and computers, and performs a great deal of work in videography for Medwest’s fitness center and marketing departments. Away from work, Brandon is an avid lake-goer and water sports enthusiast, and has competed in numerous wakeboarding competitions within the region. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends.

Lindsey Shelton
Lindsey is a grad of Western Carolina University, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. She is an American Red Cross Lifeguard & CPR Instructor, and teaches CPR and Lifeguard Training for the Aquatics department. Lindsey enjoys working out, running, playing volleyball and various other sports. During her time away from work and school, Lindsey enjoys being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.

Abbey Yearick
Abbey, age 20 is a Radiography student at Southwest Community College. While in high school, she swam on the Tuscola High School swim team. She works in both, the Aquatics area and at the front desk. Abbey enjoys working out, particularly running. She recently completed her first half-marathon, and aspires to compete in a marathon in the near future.

Autumn Shetley
Autumn is a Psychology student at Haywood Community College. Autumn is an avid swimmer, having spent time during high school on SMAC, Waynesville swim team, and the Tuscola High swim team.During her spare time, Autumn enjoys working out, wakeboarding and waterskiing at the lake, and spending time with her friends and family.

Caitlin MeHaffey
Caitlin is 17 and a student at Tuscola High. She swims on their swim team which she also is the team captain. Caitlin also swims for SMAC and holds national time standards in swimming across the nation. She plans to attend ECU to receive a degree in Chemistry.

Justin Scarbrough
Justin, age 26, is currently a student of Nursing at Haywood Community College. Previously he attended college at Mars Hill, where he played collegiate soccer, and eventually finished in 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry. Upon completion of the HCC Nursing program, he hopes to work as a Flight Nurse. In addition to his work as lifeguard and swim instructor here in the Aquatics department of MH&FC, he also works on the Fitness Floor, and instructs the Youth
Tri-Club program each week. In his spare time Justin is an avid outdoors man, and enjoys working out as often as possible.

Ron Nuzzo
Ron is 53 and comes to MedWest Health & Fitness Center after working for UPS from 1978 to 2010. He has spent in time in both New Jersey and Florida, before moving to Waynesville in 2010. Ron is an avid triathlon and marathon athlete. In his spare time, Ron enjoys dog training and spending time with his family.

Trevor Wimpey
Trevor is 18 and comes to us from Hayesville High School in Clay County, NC. He is currently enrolled in the forestry program at Haywood Community College. Trevor loves the outdoors, and is an avid skateboarder in his time away from work and school.

William Coyne
William is 24, and is originally from Shelby, NC. He holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University. He also has an extensive background in Aquatics, having spent many years as a lifeguard in facilities near his hometown prior to moving to Sylva to attend college.

Zack Howell
Zack, age 18, is a graduate of Tuscola High School, and will be attending college at A.S.U. Having swam for both Tuscola High swim team and SMAC, he has a strong background in the water. Zack’s future plans include pursuing a degree and career in Exercise Science. In the meantime, he enjoys working on computers, working out, and playing paintball.
