MedWest-Harris welcomes urologist Thomas Kevin O’Neill, MD to MountainCare Urology

Sylva, N.C. – MedWest-Harris is pleased to announce that urologist Thomas Kevin O’Neill, MD has joined MountainCare Urology in Sylva, effective Aug. 27. 

O’Neill joins Jerome M. Marchuk, MD and certified physician assistant Jane Girskis at MountainCare Urology, which specializes in the treatment and prevention of diseases of the kidneys, bladder and other urinary organs of men, women and children, as well as of male reproductive organs. Conditions treated include urinary incontinence, kidney and bladder tumors and stones, urinary infections, prostate diseases and male sexual problems. 

“I'm excited to help MedWest and to live in Western North Carolina,” said O’Neill, who has moved to the area with his wife, Terry. “I have really enjoyed the people here, and I'm looking forward to interacting with them and helping them any way I can.” 

O’Neill grew up in Valparaiso, Ind., and will focus his practice on general urology. 

Prior to joining MountainCare Urology, O’Neill was in group practice as a urologist with and the medical director of Urology San Antonio PA and an investigator with Urology San Antonio Research PA. Before that, he was in group practice with the Urology Clinic of San Antonio. In San Antonio, O’Neill also was affiliated with and was a medical staff member of Methodist Healthcare System, Baptist Health System, and of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Healthcare System. 

O’Neill earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and his bachelor of science degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. 

O’Neill completed his surgical residency at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, his vascular surgery residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis and his urology residency at Washington University School of Medicine, Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. 

O'Neill was voted by his peers as one of “Texas Monthly” magazine's Texas Super Doctors every year since the list’s inception in 2005. He also was an assistant clinical professor at University of Texas Health Science Center from August 1986 to August 1997. 

O’Neill also holds diplomate of urology certification with the American Board of Urology. 

He is professionally affiliated with the American Urological Association, the Texas Urological Society, the Bexar County Medical Society and the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. 

MountainCare Urology is in the Harris Medical Park in Suite 100 at 98 Doctors Drive in Sylva. A satellite office is at 55 Holly Springs Park Dr. in Franklin. Beginning Friday, Sept. 7, MountainCare Urology also will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the first Friday of every month at 45 Plateau St. in Bryson City.
