MedWest-Harris collaborating with Good Samaritan Clinic of Jackson County with new location opening Nov. 5
Sylva, N.C. – MedWest-Harris is collaborating with the Good Samaritan Clinic of Jackson County to support the healthcare access needs of local residents with a new location opening Monday, Nov. 5.
The Good Samaritan Clinic, a volunteer-based, primary care, free medical clinic, is moving from the Community Services Building on Scotts Creek Drive, where the Jackson County Department of Public Health is located.
Starting Monday, Nov. 5, the nonprofit Good Samaritan Clinic will occupy space provided by MedWest-Harris in a building on Hospital Road that formerly housed Sylva Medical Center. The clinic’s phone number will be (828) 631-8711.
MedWest-Harris also will continue to donate staff time from mid-level providers at the clinic on Tuesday evenings.
"We are pleased to partner with the Good Samaritan Clinic of Jackson County so the clinic can continue with its longstanding mission as we work together to provide access to care for all patients in our community," said Steve Heatherly, president and CEO of MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Swain.
The Good Samaritan Clinic serves uninsured adults from Jackson County and counties to the west who are 18 to 65 years old, have income below 175 percent of the federal poverty level and are ineligible for Medicaid.
"MedWest has been supportive of us as a free clinic since the beginning," said Rebecca D. Olson, executive director of the Good Samaritan Clinic, which began providing care in 2001. "We are very appreciative of this collaboration."
MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Swain also recently partnered with the Good Samaritan Clinic to garner a $75,000 grant from the N.C. Office of Rural Health and Community Care to support the community’s newly merged Medication Assistance Program. The program involves pharmaceutical companies providing free medicines to uninsured patients with low incomes who meet specific guidelines.
