MedWest-Franklin Outpatient, Harris Medical Park and Sylva Urgent Care laboratories earn national recognition for quality services
Franklin and Sylva, N.C. – The MedWest-Franklin Outpatient, Harris Medical Park and Sylva Urgent Care laboratories recently earned recognition for quality laboratory services when they each met all criteria for Laboratory Accreditation by COLA, a national healthcare accreditation organization.
Accreditation is given only to laboratories that apply rigid standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing and pass a rigorous on-site laboratory survey. These laboratories have earned COLA accreditation as a result of a long-term commitment to provide quality services to its patients.
MedWest staff members involved in this achievement included Kim Saunooke, laboratory manager for the outpatient laboratories at MedWest-Harris and MedWest-Franklin; and Larry Selby, MD, the Laboratory Director for the MedWest-Harris Outpatient Laboratory and the MedWest-Franklin Outpatient Laboratory; Sam Davis, MD, the Laboratory Director for Sylva Urgent Care; Jeff Lee, the Director of Sylva Urgent Care; Angela Penland, the Laboratory Outreach Coordinator instrumental in the inspections and working with the staff at each location; Misty Stiltner, MLT at MedWest-Franklin; Jodi Tollie, MLT at the MedWest-Harris Outpatient Laboratory; and Linda Turner, MT and Tonia Biddix, MLT at MedWest Sylva Urgent Care.
COLA is a nonprofit, physician-directed organization promoting quality and excellence in medicine and patient care through programs of voluntary education, achievement and accreditation.
COLA is approved by the federal government and sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine and the American Osteopathic Association.
